Bob Akmens Sports: How To Win Betting Baseball – Part 1 of 3

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

Bob Akmens Sports @ http://www.basports.com is America’s #1-Documented Top Sports Handicapper with 163 #1 Contest-Category Finishes since 1978. Consider what we’ve accomplished so far just in the start of 2008: we’re the defending NFL handicapping champs of the U.S. (#1 in thesporteye.com NFL contest; #1 in thesportsmonitor.com NFL-sides competition — we led that latter contest for an unprecedented 7 straight weeks from weeks 6-12 with win percentages between 70-80%; in college hoops, we had a 50-17 run in totals; in the NBA as of 6/6/08, we’re first in the nation at both thesportsmonitor.com and thesportseye.com with a 33-14 NBA playoff record; in hockey, we just won our 6th-straight hockey contest – a #1-finish in 6 regular- or post-seasons in a row (see our site for details); and we entered the 2008 baseball season as the defending national handicapping champs, winning both thesportsmonitor.com and thesportseye.com baseball contests last season. And as of 6/6/08, we’re again leading the nation in baseball at The Sports Eye in both most bankroll-won and win-%. Absolutely no one in the sports service business has those short-term credentials – much less our record over the past 30 years. All of this is public knowledge – and not the usual smoke and mirrors you see. 99% of the time in this business guys toot their own horn (which usually is full of baloney). But you might want to take a look at a write-up we just got at one of the Net’s top-websites: about.com. One of the nation’s leading gambling-writers believes my horn should be tooted and so he has: http://sportsgambling.about.com/od/handicappingsites/p/bobakmens.htm. After reading that write-up, you can see that what I’ve said above is just a short cadenza on my part. This is the first of a 3-part video-introduction to baseball betting. is gambling on sports legal in the US? What about horses and greyhounds?

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

By the way, does anyone think the Seattle mariners will get between 2 runs of the angels tonight?
oh, in baseball, what does the -125 mean in US terms. In the UK, it’s just minus or plus 1.5 runs.

There is NO federal law that makes the act of wagering online with an offshore sportsbook illegal. The only federal law that addresses gambling is the wire act from the 1960’s which makes it illegal to place wagers via the telephone. The US government passed a port security law and tacked on provisions (UIGEA) that make it illegal for BANKS, not players, to fund or accept payment from "illegal" gaming sources. The only problem (for the govt) is that there are dozens of third party methods available for funding and no way to trace ACH credits. Another problem for the DOJ is that they qualified the online gambling statement with "illegal online gambling" yet failed to define "illegal online gambling". There is no law that speaks to online gambling so UIGEA refers to no specific activity. In other words, the new provisions are only for show, a meager attempt to turn the banks into law enforcement agencies, and the end result is a waste of ink. I still use my VISA check card and e-check on my favorite sites. Online gaming will be impossible to completely eliminate from the US. The offshore gaming sites contend that since the wagers are being placed on their servers that the actual wagering is occurring outside of the USA, thus making the enforcement of any anti-gaming legislation impossible. The best they can do is make it inconvenient. Eventually I see the industry being regulated and taxed.

The only states with laws directed towards online wagering are Michigan, Illinois, Louisiana, Oregon, Wisconsin, Washington, Indiana, Nevada, New York, New Jersey and South Dakota. Although these states do have specific laws pertaining to online gaming, there has not been any charges laid and those laws are vague and currently being challenged.

Some sites have decided, on their own, to no longer accept American players. These are the publicly traded companies and most have returned to private owners. All of the sites that have been prosecuted have been for accepting wagers from Americans WHILE being based on US soil! It has nothing to do with off shore online gambling. There are still many highly reputable sites that welcome and cater to American clients.
I have wagered online for years and make good money betting on sports. You can get free sports betting tips, tools, sports picks, and independent reviews of only highly reputable gaming sites at http://GamblingReviewsSite.com
The recommended sites all offer top customer service, security, and fast/free payouts.

As far as your second part of the question my answer is no. I think that the Angels are just too strong for Seattle to keep pace. The M’s only chance is that Hernandez tosses 8 innings or more. For a surefire win tonight take Boston Runline (-125)! I am 12-0 for August MLB picks!

Answer #2
The odds that are listed as +150 or -150 are ‘american’ style. This simply means that they are based on $100. When you see the number displayed as a (+) positive number it signifies how much you will win if you RISK $100. For an example you have odds listed as +150 so if you risk $100 then you will win $150 for a total return of $250. If the number is listed as a (-) negative number it signifies how much you must RISK in order to WIN $100. So if you see -150, then you must RISK $150 in order to win $100 for a total return of $250. For MLB games the spread, or Runline, is still 1.5 runs the negative number simply means that is the payout. In the UK you will see something like 10/11 or .900 it’s just a different way to express the odds.

What are the official policies towards legal offshore gambling amongst the US professional sports leagues?

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Example – I live in Englang where gambling is legal and I want to bet with William Hill on the upcoming NFL game in London.

Does the NFL have an official position towards legal gambling abroad? Do other leagues have an offiical stance on sites like www.betfair.com?

Its absolutely okay to bet on NFL, I cant understand what your question was exactly, but you live in England and you have no problem betting on american sports. You can bet on everything that is offered in your site.

Ian Punnett welcomed sports conspiracy expert, Brian Tuohy, who argued that the outcomes of professional sports games are decided in advance in order to increase market share and maintain popularity with the fan base. Whenever leagues need a game or series to go their way, it usually does, Tuohy said. As an example, he referred to Super Bowl III (1969), in which the NFL’s heavily favored Baltimore Colts were defeated by the underdog New York Jets of the AFL. Tuohy believes the game was rigged to establish the AFL’s credibility. There is proof that at least 70 NFL games have been fixed, he added.

As another piece of evidence, Tuohy pointed to the baseball season immediately following the 1994–95 MLB strike. At a time when they needed to reignite the public’s interest in baseball, players suddenly began hitting homeruns at a record-breaking pace, he said. Tuohy further observed that Game 7 of the World Series has occurred more often than it should have. In the 40 years from 1949 to 1989, statistically half of the World Series have gone the full distance, he said.

In basketball, Tuohy spoke about disgraced NBA referee Tim Donaghy, who allegedly bet on games that he officiated. Tuohy admitted it is hard to prove if Donaghy actually fixed any games, but his legal troubles did apparently reveal that Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings had been rigged by two referees. “There is no law that prevents the NBA from fixing their own games,” he added.

The enormously popular world of NASCAR racing has its own legend about how races are fixed, Tuohy continued. According to the legend, known as ‘The Call,’ racers receive notification that they have been chosen to win a particular race. Tuohy suggested that Dale Earnhardt, Jr.’s victory at the 2001 Pepsi 400 may have been the result of such a call. Several drivers even admitted they did not want to pass Earnhardt, as his father had been killed at the same track only few months earlier, Tuohy said.

Tuohy also discussed the suspicious winning streak of NHL teams who relocate to the southern United States, stadium deals, and the relationship between politics and sports, as well as commented on the recent missed goal during the World Cup soccer match between England and America.

does anyone do online sports gambling?

Monday, June 14th, 2010

does anyone do online sports gambling?
Where do you do it at?
How is it to get payouts?

Yes, but as pdq stated, it’s not nearly as easy as everyone is making it out to be. Just as with anything in life, becoming a successful sports handicapper take a lot of time and hard work. For some more insights and advice, check out http://www.sports-betting-insights.com .

As for your other questions, you’ll want to do a a little research before ever depositing any money to a sportsbook because there are a lot of unethical ones out there. For a list of the personal criteria that I use in choosing sportsbooks as well as my recommendations, check out http://www.sports-betting-insights.com/choosing-a-sportsbook.html .

If you’re doing it to have fun, then just remember to never bet more than you can afford to lose. I wish you the best of luck.
