Do you need to play sports to get into Ohio State University?

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

I’m hoping to apply to OSU next year, but I was wondering if sports was a big thing they looked for.

My GPA is about a 4.0. I’m involved in many extracurricular activities, and I volunteer and babysit in most of my free time. Doing all of that I don’t have time for sports. Will being from out of state and not playing any sports hinder my chances of getting in?

I go to OSU and can tell you that it doesn’t matter if you are from out of state. OSU will accept plenty of people from out of state, so who cares where you’re from. Ohio State in the nations most populated school, and obviously less than 5 percent play sports for OSU, so, no, sports have absolutely nothing to do with it. Of course it’s good for your extracurriculars to show variety, but ultimately, your ACT is all that matters — really.

I am thinking about a career in Sports Medicine, what university courses should i be looking at?

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

i go to high school in toronto, and the universities i’m interested in are UWO, Queens, and McGill. I was trying to find any courses they had but failed. Any advise? thanks

You should be looking at undergraduate programs in Kinesiology.

Here are some links to the program websites for the universities that you’re interested in.
UWO: http://www.uwo.ca/fhs/kin/ug/programs/index.html
Queen’s: http://www.queensu.ca/skhs/Testing/ProspectiveStudents/Kinesiology.html
McGill: http://www.mcgill.ca/edu-kpe/prospective/undergraduate/

Of these three, McGill’s program is the most reputable. UofT and York also have some good programs, but I take it you’re trying to get out of Toronto. :)

Good luck, and I hope this helps!

Kyle Moats Named New Director of Athletics

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Missouri State Universitys search for its new Director of Athletics concluded today at JQH Arena with the introduction of Kyle Moats as the Universitys 10th AD. Moats is currently the Associate Athletics Director for National Marketing at the University of Louisville.

Moats is expected to begin his duties at Missouri State on July 1. He will replace Bill Rowe who will retire on June 30 after 27 years as Missouri States top athletics administrator after more than 50 years at the university as a student, coach and administrator.

“I am very pleased to have Kyle Moats as our new Director of  Athletics,” said Missouri State President Michael T. Nietzel. “Kyle impressed all of us with his broad knowledge, wide range of experience, and vision for the future. He certainly has the student-athlete at the top of his priority list, and he understands how athletics should fit into the culture of a university. Following Bill Rowe, Kyle has big shoes to fill and he knows it. But I am confident Kyle will do an outstanding job for many years to come. All of us are excited to get started.”
