Once you are a doctor, how competitive is it to get a job as a physician for a major league sports team, like major league hockey, football, baseball? Do that many people apply for these jobs? What is the pay like? Thanks!

There are over 700, 000 doctors in the US and less than I’d say less than 700 working full time on professional sports teams, less than 1%. Not only do you have to be selected for the right specialty training, but, like the players, coaches and officials, chances are you are going to have to do your time in the minor leagues, colleges, and high schools first, either part time, volunteering and if you get lucky, maybe you may get hired after several years of experience. Trust me, when some major league team invests millions of dollars for just one player, they are not going to get some doc, just out of residency to keep him or her healthy!!!

I am just wondering what the average salary is for someone who owns a sports team. It doesn’t have to be a pro team, just a minor league team or a small league. Any sport but preferably football, hockey, baseball, or lacrosse.

They don’t work on a "salary"….at that point, they are self-employed and pay themselves whatever is left over from the operations of the team. If THEY are the owner, WHO is going to pay them a salary???

Or are there others that equal or better it? Competitions that did not involve the national teams are ok to include…like college and pro sports.
I agree there’s no right answer…I’m just looking for ideas of great team sports feats to read up on. I’ll check out the ‘72 Canada team. By the way, the reason I refer to the greatness of the ‘80 hockey medal is because the US beat the Soviets in the semi’s.

Although it was great to watch, keep in mind the best team (Soviets) weren’t there due to the boycott. The game was more for American pride than deciding who the best team at the time was.
The bright side is that it gave the U.S. team more confidence for future matches, which they sorely needed.
The down side is politics influenced an outcome in amateur sports.
The greatest team sports feat was arguably Team Canada 1972, coming back from a 3-1 deficit to win with 34 seconds left in the final game. Watch the series on dvd…you will probably agree. Most questions such as yours are not definitive and open to personal preference. There is really no right answer. Dr. Harvey Glimebinder

Anyone currently working for or with a proffesional sports team have any advice on what major to pursue or any neccesary steps to land a job?

be a professional already….. or go to a bigwig college or university and get on their sports teams, and even then you have to be good AND balance good grades.. they dont let ANYONE become a professional if you really arent one
