I got cajoled into coaching / managing a youth sports team. What are some tips for me to make sure this is successful. We want the team to have fun (and win along the way) and I want to make sure I manage a few type-A parents correctly.

1) get your schedule online as quickly as possible – there are several sites that offer this including http://www.qlubb.com, http://www.centered.com – and of course Yahoogroups (however, Yahoogroups interface is a little difficult for average users)
2) maintain a roster of the kids with contact information. Put this roster online so that everyone will have an updated version of it. This will also be useful for phone trees.
3) get parent volunteers to help with uniforms, fundraising, snacks
4) get online RSVPs to know what players will be attending the games

For me, it’s supporting your team and cheering them on no matter how down and out they are. Always believing that they can one day win the championship and achieve great things. Even if another team has won 10 championships in the last 2 decades and my team has not even won once in its history, for example, I would still support my team.

Ok so, when it comes to sports, like nascar or basketball, etc., i don’t know who to pick! I mean, what made you choose one team or player over another?

Well, I became a Cubs fan as a kid and I will tell you how. I watched them on WGN when I was young even though I was in the Seattle area, I didn’t get to see the Mariners on TV because FSN channels weren’t out yet and that left me with the choice of the Cubs or Braves. Well, the Cubs had an old guy come out and sing every 7th inning stretch and no fun drunk guy for the Braves so I leaned to the Cubs and their fans are awesome. Who else can go 100 years without a championship and not have their fans give up on them.

I am 16 and I am going to go to college for physical therapy. Once i get my degree is it possible for me to work with NFL sports team. I am a huge fan of the NFL and i would love to work with a team as a physical theripist, if it is possible. If not are their clinics were i can just work with mostly athletes?

any advise or details? All the websites i’ve been to tell me all about how to become an "Athletic Trainer" for a professional sports team, but not personal training…

Get your accreditation in that sport and work your way up levels of sports teams, good luck !

i was wondering if anyone knew of a website or could tell me some info on what tax breaks a company can get when sponsoring a sports team in the uk? can you give some quantifiable answers? e.g. company pays £10,000 to hmrc and can offset £5,000 of that by giving it to a local sports team

The general principle is that it depends upon what the sponsor hopes to get out of the sponsorship. in order to be tax deductible a sponsorship agreement should make it clear that the sole purpose behind the negotiation of the agreement is publicity for the sponsor (advertising at the club’s venues and/or on the team strip, etc.) The danger arises when the sponsor or the sponsor’s directors if a company hope to gain some personal benefit from the deal or some benefit that they can pass on to customers in the form of entertainment – season tickets to games etc. in which case HMRC following the decision in Executive Network (Consultants) Limited v. O’Connor will disallow the claim

The Detroit Pistons have advance squad called Automotion. Is being a dancer of cheerleader for a pro sports team a full time job, or do these woman have day jobs to help supplement their income?

No, it is not full time, and they don’t even get paid much. It’s like a side job.
