It seems that some families in the current generation are getting serious about youth sports at an early age. It is no longer playing for fun but preparing for college. For almost any youth sport that holds competion on the club level, kids (families) are recruited to concentrate on 1 sport. All of this to supposedly earn their child a college scholarship.
The environment SHOULD be recreational for kids under 12. This gives them time to enjoy playing for the sake of playing before the competitiveness kicks in. Over 12 there is an emphisis on skills and desire to win. It is sad to see parents pushing kids as young as 5 and 6 to be ultra competitive. Parents should stop trying to make their kids do things that they can no longer do themselves. GAME ON…ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN.

As a high school basketball player, Tracy sustained two concussions within a short period of time. Tracy tells her story and emphasizes that concussions are a serious injury. Athletes should know that if they think they’ve had a concussion, don’t hide it, report it. Take time to recover. It’s better to miss one game than the whole season.

Purpose. What kind of dumb program doesn’t let you fix typos.
For my kids to be part of a team and learn to work together, for them to stay active, to have another outlet for building social relationships and make new friends, to learn some skills and learn to improve on them, to have fun while doing all that.
For me it’s not about teaching them some life lesson of sometimes you get picked and sometimes you don’t. They have plenty of chances to learn that such as in gym class when they might be the last guy picked. It’s also not about learning sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t, they learn that by playing board games at age 3 and 4. Our motto is "if you had fun, you won" I think too many kids are stressed out these days about winning and they have lost sight of the real meaning of sports. I know kids on my son’s team who half the time aren’t paying attention because they are too busy looking over at the score board. When kids are young and they lose, the lesson shouldn’t be "well try harder and maybe you will win next time" the lesson should be "winning isn’t everything, you should do your best and have fun" if you did that, then you did win in another way.

I am trying to write a argument/persuade paper stating that sports (youth) will help maintain youth health. (Physical standards)
I have focused on baseball (have to, long story but its connected through a semester of college and continuous research.
Is anyone able to direct me to articles that point out specifically baseball can help maintain physical fitness?
I’m writing the paper, just looking for info to plug in. (Usually how i write, to avoid plagiarism [the indirect plagiarism])!
I don’t have any articles for you but i work in the recreation field and have written many similar papers relating to youth sports. I would focus on helping kids find life long activities. Baseball isn’t the most demanding sport for kids but helping kids/youth find activities they enjoy and can participate in there entire life is very important in regards to the overall goal of developing active healthy people.
